Been using these as the main goto when doing climbing, skiieng, mountaneering or anything in between. Very solid pants with extreme mobility.
I bought these middle of last year. These pants are great for trekking and spring ski touring. The fit and inseam are perfect. They are strong enough on the outside but have great stretch and wick moisture super well. I have used for high output cardio tasks and have really like them. The quality is excellent as well. I would recommend these pants for sure. I am 5'10" and about 175 lbs. The medium fit is perfect for me.
These trousers are an absolute work of art. Very high quality components and very nicely put together. They are comfortable and provide good insulation and water resistance. However the only downside for me is how fragile the material is... I wore these trousers the day after I got them on a hike in the lakes and came back with a hole in the knee and a tear inside the leg, I don't even know how it happened. In the mountains I need durable trousers and I wouldn't buy these again unfortunately however still a nice product for much gentler use perhaps walking the dog
These mountain trousers are superb. I searched for along time for a schoeller type pant that could be used for everything including ski touring. Over the last two months I have used them for winter scrambling in wet Scottish snow, two ski touring trips in the alps and several sweaty uphill workouts with weight. They have been excellent. They look great as well, which makes a difference. I particularly appreciated how well they worked with ski touring boots (Salomon Mtn). The material is comfortable and very flexible, and works great with an extra merino layer, or warmer, as required. I have found myself using them at home as well. I have had problems before with the modern belts from other brands, which often loosen under the pressure of a harness or hip belt but the Valis worked fine. The windproofing was less than I have experienced with some other trousers, but this was only in strong winds and easily manageable. My only suggestion would be for the hip vents to be deeper (as on the old Rab Calibre trousers) so that they can be used to stuff gloves, hat etc on the move. Many thanks to Tommy for your help in getting the right size. Highly recommended.
I've been a disciple of the Mammut Base Jump for years, believing this to be the best and most versatile mountain pant around. I've owned numerous pairs over the years and have been firmly attached to them. However, I think this attachement may have shifted to Jottnar's Valis. I first saw these being worn by some of the guys from Lochaber mountain rescue and they raved about them. So I decided to cheat on my Base Jumps and plumped for the Valis. Three months in and the love affair continues. These are beautifully made and very flattering in cut. A lot of mountain trousers have a Tonka look about them, but these are understated and smart. The Schoeller material feels similar in weight to the grade used in the Base Jumps, and similarly tough. The venting panels work well and the braces are a nice touch, although I haven't needed to use them. These have had heavy use but show no sign of it, other than a self inflicted camp fire burn on one of the insteps. All in all, high performing kit and money worth spending. Well done Jottnar.
